RV Camping Within 2 Hours of Phoenix: Where We Send Our Own Renters

Updated September 2026. After 15+ years of handing over keys in the Phoenix valley, these are the close-in trips our renters come back talking about — reachable in roughly two hours or less from the metro.

Lake Pleasant — the west side's backyard

Lake Pleasant sits northwest of the metro, closer to Peoria than almost anywhere else in the Valley — pick up at our West Valley or North Valley lot and you can be backing into a lakeside site before most of the city is out of bed. It's the home water of the Rockabilly Bash, and the awnings and outdoor kitchens on our trailers earn their keep on that shoreline.

The Superstitions and the Apache Trail — east side

Apache Junction lives at the foot of the Superstition Mountains: Lost Dutchman State Park's campground is minutes from town, Goldfield Ghost Town is on the way, and Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat sit up the Apache Trail. From our East Valley lot at Country Club & Baseline it's a short tow down the US-60 — an easy first trip for a new tower.

Up the I-17 — Black Canyon City, Sedona, and beyond

The I-17 out of the North Valley is Arizona's escalator out of the heat: Black Canyon City first, then the climb toward Sedona's red rock at roughly the two-hour mark, and on toward Flagstaff if you can stretch the drive a little past two. One of our renters' favorite reports came back from Ashurst Lake outside Flagstaff — cool air, open water, and a trailer that made it feel easy.

The two-hour cheat code: rent where the pines already are

Show Low sits at 6,400 feet in the White Mountains, minutes from Fool Hollow Lake, Rainbow Lake, and Pinetop-Lakeside — and instead of towing up the mountain, you can rent an RV that's already there. Our Show Low units use self-service pickup: book, get the location and lockbox code by text, and walk through the rig phone-guided at your own pace.

The boondocking truth: power and water don't come from wishes

Plenty of the best close-in camping is dry camping — no hookups. Without a generator you have no way to recharge the RV's batteries, and air conditioning needs 120-volt power that only shore power or a generator provides. If your site is dry, rent the generator: motorhomes and toy haulers carry onboard generators (use billed as the unlimited-use add-on), and we rent RV-rated portable generators for travel trailers.

We also offer propane fills, fresh-water fills, and tank dump service as add-ons, so a no-hookup weekend stays livable — and every rental includes the fresh-water hose, sewer hose, electric hookup cord, RV-rated toilet paper, and tank chemicals.

One planning note: pickup is in the afternoon (scheduled between 3:00 and 6:00 PM) and return is by 11:00 AM, so a weekend trip really means Thursday evening to Monday morning on our weekend special — one price for the whole window.
